Lovers are actually two human skeletons dating back to the Neolithic era. They were found in a necropolis in the neighboring village of Valdaro, placed so that they could look at each other, with their hands and feet tangled together. After 4 years, they found their place at the entrance of the Mantua Archaeological Museum, while the efforts of the "Lovers in Mantua" association are now focusing on finding a permanent home for the ancient couple.

When they were discovered, many thought the couple had been murdered. This, after all, would be in line with the history of an Italian region famous for its love tragedies. Mantua is the city where Rome was exiled and learned that Juliet is dead. Composer Giuseppe Verdi chose Mantua as the venue for his opera, Rigoletto, where once again love intersects with death.

The reality, however, refuted the speculation, as the investigation revealed that the skeletons showed no signs of violent death. They were a man and a woman who died at the age of 18-20. Some wonder if their death found an icy night in the location where they were found. Professor Silvia Bagnoli, president of the Mandua Lovers Association, does not rule out the possibility, but considers it more likely that they were placed in that position after their deaths.

The mystery of the two prehistoric lovers may never be solved. Nevertheless, their eternal embrace will continue to haunt our imagination.
